You claim life is about self preservation and individualism, neither of which are central themes in the Scripture for a fulfilling life.

I'm made complete through a relationship with God. God leaves me here so I can live in community with God and people. These are central to the life of a Christ-follower- which is the basic premise from which I'm coming. So while I appreciate your desire to live a fulfilling life, I disagree that we are born alone, should live alone, and will die alone.
brian c. berryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15221115935758929750noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12999951.post-54830841166020502702013-01-14T10:52:56.602-08:002013-01-14T10:52:56.602-08:00It is obvious, that the average individual is inca...It is obvious, that the average individual is incapable of living a solitary existence. We have been programmed to think that we truly cannot live without the company of others. That is false. We were born alone, and we will die alone. That is the process of life.
If you have found another in this existence that shares enough similarity to, or acceptance of your way of living, then you are truly a blessed individual. It is very efficient to share the loads in life. You will always find those whose assistance to you, and assistance they gain from you, changes both of your existences.
Communication is the key. How well do you communicate your needs to others? How well do you respond to others' demands of you? Remember it is always business, never personal. Economics run by the law of supply and demand.
Who is asking for what? Where is the most efficient source for that demand? Where is the most lucrative market to exploit the supply of that demand? If the products in question are Love and Friendship, the law still applies.
You are now offering several personal hours of your life, as well as many potentially traumatic emotional experiences, to some individual or groups of beings. What do you believe you are worth? If you were to put a price on your time, what should it cost others to utilize your time and talents?
Never sell yourself short. Each of us has a set of abilities that no one else has. You must know your own abilities. Find that which makes you different from all others. Value your uniqueness. It is this resource that you control in each marketable conversation. Communication is the key.
• You cannot communicate your needs if you have no idea of who you truly are.
• You cannot have efficient and marketable trade, if you don't know the value of your product.
• You must sell yourself in all situations.

How much are you worth? If you bring nothing, you must be looking for charity. Nothing from nothing leaves nothing.
Build upon the image of your most successful vision. Make it happen. The only one who can stop you from living your dreams is you.
No one else can see your dream, or share in the dreaming. You must find the needed material in your spiritual identity to fashion the reality of your dream. You were born with all the needed equipment to renovate your individual reasoning.
Unlock the codes in your nature to release your greatest potential. It is when you shine with your own light that causes people to take notice. It is the radiance of independence that attracts others to your way of being. Live to love yourself, so you can love to live as yourself.
WYVRENKNIGHThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04245673178174398571noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12999951.post-45218197307005224812013-01-11T10:17:24.438-08:002013-01-11T10:17:24.438-08:00thanks joel. But it's like the cop in the rearview mirror making you drive wisely. At some point, driving responsibly has to be owned by the driver without the cop. Same is true for wise use of cell phones, so at some point, parents need to rely on something other than filters and such to do the job of parenting. They're good for accountability, just lousy for communication.brian c. berryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15221115935758929750noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12999951.post-3808773181557216882013-01-03T00:17:46.267-08:002013-01-03T00:17:46.267-08:00I really like your points. I’ve had students post on their FB how to hack their school’s boot script to bypass their proxies.

Your blog entry helps with “the bigger picture.”

With open communication based on trust, parents can communicate that that they are not going to screen phones until the need be and then the trust will be in jeopardy. We've had teen girls sext and post inappropriate photos on FB and the issue is you just can't screen everything. It's better to base the relationship on trust.

I still believe that parents really do need to know how to change their default password on their router (helps against hacking), know the option to screen all and any texts (using installed apps), or monitor internet wifi traffic is available but it's not the ultimate safeguard for teenagers - communication is.

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03120172101809079999noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12999951.post-21122837286031194402012-11-12T03:12:35.948-08:002012-11-12T03:12:35.948-08:00I would have given anything to have had a graduati...I would have given anything to have had a graduation speaker like this. My graduation isn't exactly one of my fondest memories. Being squeezed into a hall with a load of other graduates on the hottest day of the year, burning up in those truly stupid robes, listening to speakers that ranged from the painfully dull to the clearly-from-another-planet. Seriously. That's the only way I explain the content of his speech. To hear him tell it, we were the best thing since sliced bread, everything was fine, the world was our oyster.

Because, of course, everyone loves to feel thoroughly patronised at their graduation.

But anyway, my favourite lines from this speech are these ones:

"Climb the mountain not to plant your flag, but to embrace the challenge, enjoy the air and behold the view. Climb it so you can see the world, not so the world can see you." That one soundbite "You're not special" was always going to be seized on by the media but those mountain lines don't sound like "Don't even bother because you're worthless" to me. That sounds like "Work hard and do it for the right reasons". And that's a message I can get behind. Become a scientist or a doctor but do it because that's what you want to do. Don't do it because those are the graduate jobs that attract the admiration, the approving looks, the prestige. Don't aspire to be special. Of course, there's idealism there, it'd be a pretty boring speech if there wasn't. Presumably, those students are intelligent enough to look at his overall message and take the parts that are relevant to them. That's all anyone can do with any advice they're offered. I was recently reading a book on discipleship and the author went to great lengths on stating why we - the church - is included in the Abrahamic covenant: to be a part of the 'stars in the sky' and 'sand on the shore.' The "slippery" part of the slope is that how far is the argument going to go - is the church supposed to have the land blessing as well? A good 'balance' is to see how Jesus himself treated his own physical family. 1. He made sure that his mom was taken care of before he died. 2. The emotional and deep love he had for them (see Lazarus). 3. The obedience he showed his parents (first miracle). These are the attitudes that Jesus himself displayed and we would be good to remember that he himself was taught and trained by his own parents.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03120172101809079999noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12999951.post-14706126669753334872012-10-03T17:11:13.163-07:002012-10-03T17:11:13.163-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03120172101809079999noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12999951.post-28813852928860894532012-09-25T11:56:58.911-07:002012-09-25T11:56:58.911-07:00sorry.
